Sir Dayton Grey was born in a hovel in northern Angrove to peasant farmers. As a young man he watched the knights and lordlings riding about the countryside and dreamed of a life of adventure and respect. When he was thirteen a chance encounter with a trio of Lantern Knights travelling to Bellweather convinced Dayton that he must leave home and swear his life to the service of Saint Clevoy.
He had always been a pious boy and Sir Dayton found life in the order fit him well. His time as an initiate was gruelling though he soon proved his prowess on the battlefield as a squire. He earned his spurs after a battle with a party of raiders from Lodd where he protected a knight pinned by his fallen horse from the ravening beastmen.
Sir Dayton is unashamed of his peasant upbringing and is the first to suggest that he was made for hard tasks. It was this stoic attitude that brought him to Centara and the many hardships that the jungle offered.
During the battle with the Enn’Venook Sir Dayton once more distinguished himself, delivering the killing blow. His respect for his fellow Lantern Knight, Sir Lucius Vandrail, grew when the other knight was made sergeant and asked Dayton to serve as his right hand.
